YOU SHOULD BE A STUDENT OF THE HORSE NOT JUST A PASSENGER.

Lets start by asking "What is Natural Horsemanship?"
Natural Horsemanship is not about any one system or invention but it is a way of interacting with horse using  the least amount of pressure to get the job done with their natural personality and mutual respect.  "Advance & Retreat", Swift and Firm Correction when necessary and retreat. Timing is everything.

Have a Plan: Each time I have a lesson I go thru my mind a plan or agenda that I would like my student and their partner to acheive. This will keep the student and horse working together with harmony, progression and consistency.   If you don't have a plan for your horse, the horse will have a plan for you!

Be Consistent: Whatever you do, be consistent. A horse values consistency because it can always be sure of what is expected.  You want to be the one training your horse not the horse training you!!  When you're handling your horse, you're communicating with your horse.   Many people change once they get in the saddle.  You must be the same in the saddle as you are on the ground.   My job is to shape you to be a effective and consistent horseman,  no matter what horse you are with.

Jody brings over 32 years of personal and professional horse experience.  22 years of that working with youth.

We use different breeds and offer many styles, but the building block remains the same to being a safe and effective horseman.  We are not a barn of one riding discipline.  Students will develop their overall horsemanship skills and later choose a style they enjoy most.   Our school horses have been carefully selected to provide students with a progessive learning experience that is challenging, fun and safe.

Trail riding is a important piece of the students overall learning experience.   Horsemanship extends beyond a fenced in arena.  Trail riding allows the horses and students a chance to engage in different obstacles that challenge the rider and keeps the horses interested.  We have recently built a challenge course with obstacles for the horse and rider.  Many times the ring horse becomes sour and tired of going round and round
!

We offer opportunities for our students to show off the skills they have learned by participating in local shows.   If you look at our event schedule you will see how busy the show season is!

I attend clinics and shows as often as possible.  I believe that as a horseman I should challenge myself as well as my students.  Which means you will find me in the show ring as well.  Learning from others allows me to pass on that knowledge to my students.  I have had the priviledge of riding with Chris Cox and Richard Winters both Road to the Horse Winners.  I work for Chris on occasion at his tour stops.  A local trainer, Helge Buflod has been a wonderful mentor, partner and friend.  I am always trying expand my knowledge in of daily care of the horse.  I attend conferences and seminars to keep myself aware of medical updates and care recommendations.  2011 proves to be another busy year of learning.

Lessons are $40 per hour (private)

For the spring 2011 season we are accepting students to our waiting list.  The lesson schedule is currently full but we would still love the opportunity to work with you in the future.
